Was Hurricane Right to Go for Two Against Snow Canyon? Yes.

This article recaps a segment from The Rush's Monday, Oct. 5, 2026 episode. Watch the full show.

Snow Canyon knocked off previously unbeaten Hurricane 28-27 after stopping the Tigers' two-point try late in the fourth quarter. A lot of people are second-guessing why Hurricane didn't just kick the extra point. The Rush's answer: going for two was the right call.

There are two arguments against it. Hurricane is arguably the better team, and the better team usually takes the tie and trusts itself. Snow Canyon had also stuffed several runs up the middle near the goal line.

But going for it is who Hurricane is. That's how the Tigers won their biggest game of the year, against Crimson Cliffs. They believe in their offensive line, and the whole personality of the program under coach Jerry Cowan is to run right at you without fear.

The play call was smart, too. Nearly every time Hurricane runs that power formation, Kannon Cowan goes right. This time he sidestepped and went left behind two lead blockers, and they picked up their blocks. The only thing that beat it was Snow Canyon's Caleb Greenwood, who shot through the gap and made a superhero play.

Credit to first-year Snow Canyon coach Zach Tauteoli. After his defense gave up 60-plus points in a triple-overtime game against Spanish Fork in Week 1, it has buckled down and gone toe to toe with Hurricane's front.

The Warriors already had the playmakers in quarterback Parker Olson, receiver Issaiah Thompson and running back Brody Lounsbury. Thompson is a mismatch nobody can jump with, and he came down with several big catches against Hurricane. If the defense keeps this up, Snow Canyon is a real threat for a region title and a deep playoff run.
