Bountiful’s Gutsy Two, Mountain Ridge’s No. 1 Case and Copper Hills’ Historic Win

This article recaps a segment from The Rush's Monday, Oct. 5, 2026 episode. Watch the full show.

Week 8 had some wild finishes, and The Rush broke down a few of the best on Monday's show.

Bountiful 29, Alta 28

Bountiful went for the win. With 44 seconds left, quarterback Hudson Malmrose hit Max Feller on a beautifully drawn-up inside-out route for the go-ahead two-point conversion. Alta still had a last chance. On the final play, a running back's wheel route came wide open, and Xavier Cocci put the ball right on him, but it went through his hands. It was a devastating way to lose. Bountiful is legit, with a strong defense and an efficient passing game, and The Rush will always cheer for going for the throat.

Is Mountain Ridge the best team in the state?

Yes. Skyridge would say it's a different team now than the one Mountain Ridge beat in Week 1, and The Rush would love to see a rematch, or a first meeting with Corner Canyon. But nobody has slowed Mountain Ridge down, and Jaxon Hunt has been the best player in the state so far.

Copper Hills 14, Bingham 13 (OT)

Copper Hills beat Bingham in overtime on Ethan Hill's 15-yard touchdown pass to Logan Beck. Andy believes it's the first time Copper Hills has ever beaten Bingham, and at 6-2, the Grizzlies are on track for the first winning season in school history. Congratulations to coach Darius Matthews on building that culture.

Also impressive: Juab's 37-21 win over Richfield behind Price Armstrong, and Kanab's 35-14 win over a good Enterprise defense.
