Breaking Down the Deseret News Top 25 After Week 8
This article recaps a segment from The Rush's Monday, Oct. 5, 2026 episode. Watch the full show.
The Rush went through the Deseret News high school football rankings classification by classification on Monday's show, with credit to James Edwards and his staff for the work they do covering every game.
6A: Mountain Ridge (8-0) is clearly deserving of No. 1, especially after beating Skyridge in Week 1. Skyridge (7-1) has proved itself since, upsetting Corner Canyon and beating Lone Peak on a final-drive field goal. Corner Canyon (6-2) is third, followed by Lehi (5-3), which just beat American Fork 20-19 with three interceptions on defense, and American Fork (6-2). Andy would have had Herriman in the top five, but you can't kill anyone for losing to Mountain Ridge.
5A: Orem (5-2) is first, but West is 8-0 and you could argue for the Panthers at No. 1. Box Elder (7-1) has lost only to Rigby, Idaho. Springville (6-2) and Fremont (5-3) round out a top five with a lot of parity.
4A: Ridgeline (8-0) leads Stansbury (6-2) after a shootout that lived up to the hype. Crimson Cliffs (6-2) keeps reloading after losing nearly all of its starters, followed by Hurricane (7-1) and Highland (6-1), which just keeps winning.
3A: Morgan (7-1) looks head and shoulders above everyone, with its only loss to Ridgeline in Week 1. Grantsville, Juab, Richfield and Canyon View follow.
2A, 1A and 8-man: San Juan, Kanab and Rich sit on top. Duchesne is No. 2 in 1A, and The Rush is working on bringing more 1A and 2A guests on the show this week.
