Jake Campbell and Caleb Greenwood Deliver Snow Canyon’s Upset of Hurricane

Snow Canyon's 28-27 homecoming win over previously unbeaten Hurricane came down to two plays, and the two players who made them joined The Rush on Thursday.

The first belonged to receiver Jake Campbell. On third down, he read man coverage before the snap and faded toward the sideline on a go route. Quarterback Parker Olson put the ball right on him, and with the defender holding his right arm, Campbell went up and caught it one-handed for the first down. Snow Canyon scored to go up a touchdown. Campbell finished with two catches for 97 yards and a touchdown.

Then it was Caleb Greenwood's turn. Hurricane scored late and went for two. During the Tigers' timeout, Snow Canyon's defensive coordinator called a shift that moved the defensive tackles to the left and changed Hurricane's blocking scheme. When Hurricane ran left, Greenwood slipped under a blocker and made the stop. "I just was in the right spot at the right time," he said. He had eight tackles in the game and has 3.5 tackles for loss this season.

Both said the turnaround started after early losses to Layton Christian Academy and Cedar. Greenwood said the team felt like a one-man show at the start of the year, with players chasing highlights. "We just came together as a team," he said. Campbell said the Warriors had to dig deep to overcome that adversity.

Greenwood called the Hurricane game a chance to show Snow Canyon is a contender for state. The Warriors have a bye this week and close the regular season against Dixie on Oct. 14.
