Logan Grizzlies senior Ethan Carson has eight interceptions this season, tied for the state lead, Andy said. Two of them came in Logan's 32-22 win over Morgan on Oct. 15, including a pick six, as the Grizzlies went unbeaten in 3A North.

Carson said the win started with preparation. "We actually practiced the previous Saturday," he said. "We took it very seriously. It was our best practice of the year for sure. We watched so much film and we read out all their tendencies. So when it was time for game time, we were ready and we knew what we were going to see."

That included the play he returned for a touchdown. Logan was in Cover 2 against Morgan's twin set, and Carson knew the Trojans liked a quick out to their No. 2 receiver. "I kind of disguised it a little bit as I was bailing, so it looked like I was bailing," he said. "And then I came down right when I saw that ball." He said he saw it coming before kickoff. "I manifested it before the game, actually. I was like, I'm going to get a pick six on that quick out."

It is one of his favorites this season "just because of the situation of the game," he said. "Region championship. It was a big play to really give us some momentum." He also picked his first interception, in Week 2 against Preston. "It got me going and it gave me a lot of confidence."

Carson credited safety Mason Redd, who had "his best game of the year for sure" after a tough defensive night against Grantsville. "We just really made a statement, showed how good of a defense we are," Carson said. He also gave credit to the defensive line, whose job was to keep Morgan's quarterback in the pocket. "I give a lot of credit to the defensive line on how I had my two interceptions that game."

Quarterback Easton Favero had a long run on a keeper against Morgan. "He's been phenomenal all season, so it's not even a surprise," Carson said. "He's a leader on our team, and he holds us to a high standard in practice." Asked how many times he has picked off Favero in practice, Carson said, "Not many, but I have a couple times."

Carson played his first three seasons at Westlake before transferring to Logan this year. "I worked really hard last offseason," he said. "I feel like I really took a bigger step."

Logan, under coach Justin Hugie, is the No. 3 seed in 3A and will play the winner of Canyon View and Manti on Friday, Oct. 30.
