Koy Duckett Wins Before the Snap for Crimson Cliffs

Crimson Cliffs is coming off a win over Snow Canyon, and receiver Koy Duckett was a big reason why, with two touchdowns and 76 receiving yards.

His 45-yard score started before the ball was snapped. "I saw that I was going to have to press vertical a little bit, try to get his hips turned," Duckett told The Rush. "So I stemmed him outside, saw that hip turn, slipped inside and trusted my quarterback to throw a good ball."

His second touchdown came from studying the coverage. After an earlier red zone trip, Duckett noticed the defense playing off-man with an inside shade, leaving plenty of room outside. He told his coach any out-breaking route would be open. The coach trusted him, Duckett ran an exit route, beat the contact and caught the touchdown.

With almost every starter new except the quarterback, Duckett says the offense is coming together. "Offense can take a little bit longer to get clicking, but we're starting to figure it out," he said.

He also credited two slot receivers. Jett Bastian, in his first year of real playing time, is "one of our hardest blockers," and Jack Boyer is "small but mighty" and had two touchdowns against Brighton.

What sets Duckett apart? "I just like being where my feet are," he said. "A lot of the stuff happens before the play even starts."

Crimson Cliffs faces Dixie this Friday.
