Blake Weston and Ogden Prove They Belong With 3A’s Best

Ogden went into Grantsville as the underdog and came out with one of the program's best wins in years. The Tigers beat the Cowboys 24-21, and senior Blake Weston was all over the field, finishing with nine tackles and two tackles for loss.

Weston said the upset was built during the week. "We had some good practices. We were rolling, stacking the days," he said. "We weren't scared of these guys. We knew this group is special." Ogden has struggled with Grantsville in the past, which made the celebration afterward even sweeter. "This year is different," Weston said. "We proved ourselves."

Jack Thompson's kickoff return put Ogden ahead with most of the fourth quarter still to play, and that left it to the defense to hold off an explosive Grantsville offense. Weston credited the run defense, with the defensive line winning up front and the linebackers filling their gaps, plus two interceptions from the secondary. He also credited the coaching staff for drawing up new schemes every week and trusting the players to go make plays.

His own favorite highlight came on offense: a 15-yard slant where he fought for extra yards after the catch.

Weston has done a little bit of everything at Ogden. He broke his foot as a freshman, started both ways as a sophomore, and moved to quarterback as a junior when the Tigers needed one, playing through a broken thumb. This year he's back at receiver and has moved to inside linebacker, where he's piled up 65 tackles and three sacks.

Ogden hosts Union next as the Tigers try to keep the momentum going. As Andy reminded him, a senior season goes by too quick.
