Corner Canyon senior safety Will Tenney has been part of one of the state's best defenses again this season. The defending 6A champion Chargers (8-2) won their last three games by a combined 131-24 and open the playoffs as the No. 3 seed at home against No. 14 Bingham today, Oct. 30, at 4 p.m., according to MaxPreps.
In the 34-7 regular-season finale against Lehi, Tenney had nine tackles, a forced fumble, a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry. "We're just always flying around and making big hits, wrapping up, rallying to the ball, just always going hard every play," he said.
A pick six in the rain
Tenney's interception return for a touchdown against Lone Peak came in a downpour. "I just had the deep half, and then I just saw the quarterback stare him down," he said. "I just broke on it. It was raining pretty hard, so honestly, I just had to make sure I caught it quick. And then I just made a couple moves, got into the end zone."
He also had a pick six against Cedar Valley, a score against Timpview and 15 tackles against Skyridge.
Teammates he trusts
Tenney said he knows linebacker Ryce Palepoi is "always going to give his all," and that defensive lineman Wyatt Warner is "just always making plays, getting to the quarterback in the backfield."
Heading into Bingham, Tenney said the message is simple. "This week's pretty big for us. Every day at practice, just make sure you're doing everything you can. You don't got a lot of time left," he said. "We just need to do our job."
Asked whether any opponent stood out, Tenney kept the focus on his own team. "I just play my game," he said.
He has also handled a punt and a kick this year when punter Josh Harris was hurt. For more on the 6A bracket, read our first-round predicted margins and our cover story on Mountain Ridge's Jaxon Hunt.
