Week 8’s Biggest Upsets: North Sanpete, Box Elder and Snow Canyon Lead the Way

This article recaps a segment from The Rush's Monday, Oct. 5, 2026 episode. Watch the full show.

Every Monday, The Rush looks at the biggest upsets of the week, measured against the spreads in the Deseret News' Parry's Power Guide. Week 8 delivered plenty.

West Field over Layton, 21-20. The Longhorns were about 10-point underdogs against a big 6A school and pulled it out with a touchdown in the final seconds, extending a strong run as they chase a region title against Fremont and Box Elder.

Mountain View over Timpanogos, 31-28, and Snow Canyon over Hurricane, 28-27, both as roughly 10-point underdogs.

Juab over Richfield, 37-21. The Wasps were 11-point dogs against a Richfield team that had just blown out Cedar. Price Armstrong and Juab keep proving 3A is wide open.

Box Elder over Fremont, 17-16. The Bees were 12.8-point underdogs and won on a last-second field goal from Tytan Hupp. Andy called it on last week's show: the spread was too big, and it would come down to a kick.

Canyon View over Cedar, 19-9. As 13.5-point dogs in the Coal Creek Classic, Wyatt Copp and the Falcons' defense pressured the quarterback and did just enough on offense. It's one of the best rivalries in the state, played in front of a packed Eccles Coliseum.

Utah Military Camp Williams over Whitehorse, 41-30, as 13.9-point dogs against a Whitehorse team that usually puts up big numbers.

No. 1: North Sanpete over Manti, 36-21. The Hawks were 19-point underdogs. Manti, a state finalist last year, has been hit hard by injuries and has just one win, making the Templars the most confusing team in the state so far.
