Ridgeline hasn't lost since Aug. 24, and senior Reagan Brown has been a big reason why. She has 15 goals and 13 assists this season and scored the opening goal in a 6-0 first-round playoff win over Cedar.
"We came in knowing that every game in state is going to be hard," Brown said. "We scored right out of the gate, so I think that really set our tone." Her goal came off a corner kick from Sierra Dean. "It went right to my foot and I just hit it in," she said.
As Andy noted, Ridgeline is the only team to beat Green Canyon this season, winning 3-2 on Sept. 21 after losing 3-0 earlier. "We knew we couldn't play our normal way because it just didn't work against them," Brown said. "It wasn't the prettiest soccer." Her favorite goal of the season came when Piper Seale's pressure forced a deflection. "I just one-touched it and it went into the top left corner of the net," she said.
Brown said the Riverhawks have grown up since the start of the season. "At the beginning, it was a lot of dribbling from individuals," she said. "Now we switch the field really well, and we also just know how each other play way better."
She had something to say about each teammate Andy named. Sam Brown is her sister and "a goal scorer." Lily Hunsaker is back from an ACL injury: "It's so fun to see her get back." Taylie Rigby is "really good at moving the ball around," Yadi Parker "just hustles so hard," and Melanie Smith is "speedy" and "not afraid of getting hit."
Brown missed her freshman season with a knee injury. As a sophomore, coach Richard Alexander moved her to center back, where she played for two years before moving to the midfield this season.
Ridgeline (15-3), the No. 4 seed, hosts No. 5 Mountain View on Thursday, Oct. 15.
