Mountain Ridge-Herriman and the Coal Creek Classic Headline Week 8
This article recaps a segment from The Rush's Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026 episode. Watch the full show.
Two of the best matchups of Week 8 are Herriman at Mountain Ridge and the Coal Creek Classic between Cedar and Canyon View.
Herriman at Mountain Ridge
The problem with Mountain Ridge is that it doesn't have a weakness. The Sentinels score about 45 points a game, and they haven't given up a 100-yard rusher. Most of their opponents' leading rushers have finished with around 40 yards. Quarterback Jaxon Hunt is coming off a seven-touchdown game against Riverton, and running back Tyson Dunn has come in guns blazing after sitting out half the season as a transfer. That was a big boost after Mountain Ridge lost running back Bradley Foster to injury earlier in the season.
Herriman is coming off a 22-20 loss to Lehi, in which Filisi Filipe ran 27 times for 118 yards. Against Mountain Ridge, the Mustangs need him to get 30-plus carries and push toward 200 yards, keeping Hunt and receiver Xander Thayer on the sideline. Defensively, Herriman needs Kemper Castro and Aden Jensen to make Hunt uncomfortable. Keep it close into the fourth quarter, get one turnover, and Herriman can win. Parry's Power Guide has Mountain Ridge by 7.2.
Cedar vs. Canyon View
The Coal Creek Classic is at Southern Utah's Eccles Coliseum, and they should do it every year. Canyon View last beat Cedar on Aug. 25, 2023, and the Falcons are actually scoring more than the Reds this season, about 36 points a game. Jace Floyd is averaging around a sack a game and is a great runner, and Wyatt Copp is a stud at linebacker.
Cedar has Braxton Demille running for around 130 yards a game, quarterback Jackson Mann throwing for about 150, and Hunter Burgess averaging more than 100 receiving yards. Canyon View's keys: slow down Demille, make Mann throw it 25-plus times, and keep winning the second quarter. Parry has Cedar by 13.5. The Rush thinks it'll be closer.
