Drevin Christensen’s Final-Minute Strike Keeps Bulldogs Rolling

Provo quarterback Drevin Christensen threw the touchdown that sent the 14th-seeded Bulldogs past No. 3 Stansbury, 26-23, a 71-yard strike to Brexton Hunter with less than a minute left.

Christensen said Provo had already scored on the same play, only to have it called back. "We went right back to it, and then they caught on to it," he said. "My progression was right, so I was looking right, and then I knew a post was coming back side. And Brexton was wide open. That route pulled the safety. I saw the safety go down, and my line gave me time and I stepped into it."

"That game was crazy," he said. "When you thought something was going to happen, something totally different happened. Everybody just stayed dialed in and didn't really lose focus."

"They're the reason we won"

Christensen gave the credit to Provo's defense. "To be honest, I think they're the reason we won that game. They kept us in it," he said. "We stopped a running back that averages over 100 yards a game to nothing."

He said Hunter "never comes off the field" and comes through "in a big moment." Receiver Liam Schoenrock "can really do it all. He's physical, so he can block when we need him to. He gets open. His routes are clean and smooth," Christensen said. "All I've got to do is put it in the vicinity of my receivers, and they're going to go get it."

A brotherhood on a roll

Provo has won seven of its last eight. The only loss since August was 22-21 to Park City, and the Bulldogs scored 48 on Wasatch, 66 on Uintah, 55 on Deer Creek and 47 on Timpanogos. Christensen said the coaches preach brotherhood. "Everything we do, we're a brotherhood. Even off the field, on the field, in the weight room," he said. "So we can't leave each other's side."

He said he was excited for Stansbury because "I didn't get to play against the good teams in preseason. So I knew I could go out there and do something good against them."

Provo plays Skyline in the second round on Friday, Nov. 6, according to MaxPreps. "It's going to be a physical game," Christensen said. "But it'll be fun."
